Free tree giveaway highlights Viva Poesía festival at Mission Marquee Plaza

Poetry, live performances and a free fruit tree giveaway are all part of this year’s Viva Poesía Festival.

SAN ANTONIO — A night of poetry, culture and community, plus a free tree giveaway, is coming to the south side of San Antonio.

The City of San Antonio will host the 12th annual Viva Poesía Festival on Saturday, April 11, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Mission Marquee Plaza.

This year’s theme, “Doce Voces: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Poetry,” celebrates 250 years of the nation’s journey through powerful spoken word performances.

The event will feature current San Antonio Poet Laureate Eddie Vega, along with past laureates and local artists sharing stories of resilience, culture and unity.

Guests can also enjoy live music, art activities, and hands-on workshops throughout the evening.

One of the biggest highlights, a free tree adoption giveaway, will offer 400 fruit trees to the community, courtesy of the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department.

City leaders say the event continues to bring people together through creativity while celebrating San Antonio’s rich cultural heritage.

The festival is free and open to the public.
