Friendly Pitbull mix named Zoey was abandoned by her previous owner | Forgotten Friends

She will greet you with a smile and a wag of her tail, and stay by your side for cuddling and adventures.

SAN ANTONIO — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week’s Forgotten Friend is Zoey, a friendly 1½-year-old Pitbull mix that ended up at Paws For Big Hearts (PFBH) Rescue in November of 2024 after being abandoned. The rescue is a foster-based program, so she has been in a foster home for eight months now.

“Our foster-based animal rescue focuses on giving the dogs on death row second chances at their furever home,” said Paws For Big Hearts. “We strive to provide these animals the medical attention, safety, and love for the rest of their lives.”

Zoey gets along great with other dogs and even likes cats. She likes people of all ages and adores children.

“Zoey is the ultimate cuddle buddy and loves going on adventures,” said Jessica Bissett, PFBH.  “She is a loyal companion who will follow you around the house, take long naps by your side, and cherish every moment of attention she receives.”

Her excitement at being around people can be a bit overwhelming at first, but it’s only because she loves everybody so much.

She will always be the first to greet you when you walk through the door, with a big smile and her tail wagging.

She’s the perfect combination of cuddle buddy and an adventurous companion.

“Zoey will sit by your side through a good movie marathon or television series,” said Jessica. “She is constantly looking for ways to wiggle into your arms and heart.”

Zoey knows how to sit, and will even give you her paw. She loves attention and wants to be close to her human as much as she can so she hasn’t really learned to how to stay, yet.

She loves treats and will do just about anything for one. Her foster will occasionally get her some doggy ice-cream, which she loves, but it has to be given in really small amounts or she will devour it quickly and be left with a brain freeze.

One quirky habit she does have though is she prefers to eat her breakfast or dinner by herself.

Zoey is potty-trained and crate-trained. She doesn’t bark very frequently and is usually pretty quiet. The one exception is when she’s hungry or wants some loving. Then she will whine or whimper to give you the heads up.

Zoey is healthy, has already been spayed, is microchipped and current on her vaccinations.

Who is ready to open their heart and their home to this precious girl?
