Frio River crests at flood stage causing flooding on roads in Concan, Uvalde County

The Frio River is expected to crest about 16 feet above normal.

UVALDE COUNTY, Texas — In Uvalde County, heavy rain caused the Frio River to crest about 16 feet higher than normal Monday.

Local officials in the area worked to communicate with residents and tourists to make sure everyone was safe. There were no injuries reported as of late Monday afternoon. The flooding caused some street flooding in nearby low-water crossings and overpasses.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said state resources are now being deployed to areas in and around Concan, Uvalde and Del Rio due to Monday’s heavy rain and flooding.

Brett Rimkus, President at Garner Park Concessions spoke to KENS 5 about what led up to the emergency situation Monday.

“So about 3:00 a.m. this morning, we had a, storm system move in from the South, Southwest, and it moved in,” said Rimkus. “And it basically all through the top of Uvalde County going up with the Real County, it dumped a widespread area of five to six inches of rain. It’s still raining at this time, and it got a lot of the creeks up, throughout the night. Fortunately, we’ve had a great response from our emergency response. Everybody at the Delta Canyon has communicated very well.”

If you have an upcoming reservation on the Frio River, especially for those who are arriving Monday, officials are asking you to stay where you are. TX 127 and CR 348 are both impassable.  Officials want you to stay off of the roads and allow first responders to access areas in question. County Roads are not kept current on Tx DOT websites.  Please listen to your local businesses.

An official with TxDOT says, “crews are monitoring and will close if needed. Drive Texas will be updated if that happens.”
