UVALDE COUNTY, Texas — Evacuations are underway in Uvalde County as heavy rain is causing the Frio River to crest about 16 feet higher. Officials urge those along the river to seek higher ground.
We checked in with Brett Rimkus, President at Garner Park Concessions to find out more about what is happening.
“So about 3:00 a.m. this morning, we had a, storm system move in from the South, Southwest, and it moved in,” said Rimkus. “And it basically all through the top of Uvalde County going up with the Real County, it dumped a widespread area of five to six inches of rain. It’s still raining at this time, and it got a lot of the creeks up, throughout the night. Fortunately, we’ve had a great response from our emergency response. Everybody at the Delta Canyon has communicated very well.”
“We’re expecting anywhere from a 10 to 12-foot rise, and in some places up to 15, and some of the lower where some of the other creature coming in, between Garner and, Concan this time,” said Rimkus.
The Frio River at Concan and the Frio River below Dry Frio near Uvalde is now forecast to reach major flood stage, according to the National Weather Service.
