The San Antonio Spurs are igniting excitement for their 40th playoff run with rallies, watch parties, a downtown fan shop and more.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs are gearing up for their first taste of playoffs action in the Victor Wembanyama era, creating excitement across a city that knows what it’s like to root on teams with championship pedigrees.
To capitalize on the hype, the team has announced a wide-ranging slate of fan events and citywide activations to mark the first round of the NBA playoffs – starting Feb. 18 – as they aim to rally support across the Alamo City and beyond.
The events include official watch parties, giveaways and interactive fan experiences as the Spurs make their 40th playoff appearance in 50 seasons—that’s the second-most in the league since 1976.
Pep rally
Kicking things off is a pep rally ahead of Game 1 of the playoffs, to be held at the Red McCombs Community Court at Hemisfair. It hasn’t been officially announced when the Spurs’ first playoff game will be, but the pep rally will happen at 10 a.m. that day. The rally will feature music, giveaways and free coffee and tacos for the first 200 fans.
Playoff watch parties
The team will also host official watch parties for all road games at The Rock at La Cantera on the northwest side. The Spurs Coyote and Hype Squad will make visits to the free-to-attend, where fans can also take advantage of photo booths and playoff-themed giveaways. Home playoff games will also be streamed at the venue.
Got merch?
A temporary Spurs fan shop will open up downtown at 333 W. Commerce Street for the duration of the playoffs for devotees who want to stock up on merchandise for the postseason. A grand opening event is scheduled for April 14 at 5 p.m., featuring music, trivia and free Taco Palenque for early attendees. The shop will operate daily from noon to 8 p.m. and include exclusive merchandise and interactive fan experiences.
Fans attending first-round home games at Frost Bank Center will also receive free T-shirts placed on their seats, with a different design for each game highlighting “San Antonio and Spurs culture.” Some designs were created by local artists.
Team partners will also offer promotions throughout the playoffs. These include discounts for fans wearing Spurs merchandise and in-arena giveaways during home games.
Elsewhere in Texas (and Europe)
Beyond San Antonio, the team is planning a broader “City Takeover” campaign extending to Austin and Paris, featuring Spurs branding, murals and playoff-themed displays appearing the two cities. Fans can also participate in a “Spurs Spot It Challenge,” earning rewards points by visiting designated sites featuring official playoff logos starting April 17.
Additional details, including schedules and fan opportunities, are available on the team’s website.
