ATLANTA — The Gainesville Police Department is mourning the unexpected loss of one of its own— K-9 Ryker, a loyal partner and working dog who died from a sudden medical condition while on duty.
Ryker served alongside Officer Quick as a dual-purpose K-9, certified in both police utility and narcotics detection. He was known throughout the department for his energy, dedication, and strong bond with his handler.
“Ryker was more than a dog, he was a dedicated officer of this agency and a loyal friend,” said Chief Jay Parrish in a statement. “He will truly be missed.”
Police say Ryker played a key role in numerous investigations, helping to apprehend suspects and seize illegal narcotics throughout Gainesville and Hall County. Officers described him as a hero who never hesitated to do his job and always showed up eager to serve.
Ryker’s sudden passing has left a deep impact on the department and the community he helped protect. The Gainesville Police Department extended its condolences to Officer Quick and his family, saying their thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.
“He was loved by all who met him,” the department shared.
