Georgia police officers hurt in high-speed chase, crash identified

Officers John Chandler and Tre McDonald were hurt after officials said they were inside their patrol vehicle when a suspect hit them at nearly 100 mph.

POLK COUNTY, Ga. — The Polk County Police Department identified the two officers who were hurt after a high-speed chase and crash over the weekend

On Monday, officials identified the officers as John Chandler and Tre McDonald.

In an update on social media, the police department said Officer Chandler is still in the hospital after having a second surgery on Monday for his injuries. Officer McDonald was released from the hospital and is now recovering at home. 

The police department said both officers will have a long recovery ahead of them. 

“We appreciate all the support and prayers for our Injured officers,” the police department wrote in the social media post.

On Saturday night, Chandler and McDonald were hurt after officials said they were inside their patrol car when a suspect hit them at nearly 100 mph. The impact of the crash caused the car to go up in flames. 

Authorities identified the suspect involved in the chase as A.J. Ware. The police department said on Monday that Ware is still on the run.
