Goat on the run after breaking into East Texas church, causing $1600 in damage

Nobody was hurt, and no damage was reported inside the church; however, the damage to the front door is estimated to cost $1,600.

TROUP, Texas — The lamb of God makes an appearance in the Lord’s house? Maybe not quite — A billy goat decided to pay an East Texas church a visit, and he wasn’t exactly there to worship.

According to Lowrey Davis, an administrative assistant with First Baptist Church Mixon, the goat saw his own reflection in the church’s glass, aggravating the animal. The goat charged through the glass door into the church.

Once inside, the goat reportedly ran wild, trotting around the pews and across the stage.

“I guess he was just having a baaaaaad day,” Davis humored us in a conversation with CBS19 staff.

Nobody was hurt, and no damage was reported inside the church; however, the damage to the front door is estimated to cost $1,600.

The goat wasn’t subdued easily: Davis said he had the goat by the horns while an animal control officer had him by the hind legs, when the goat shook free and ran off down the road into the woods, where he was unable to be located.

“We found out there had been reports of him roaming the area for the last couple of days,” Davis said. “No idea who the owner might be. He looked to be a goat of some value.  Hope he is found and returned home soon!”
