‘Gobble Games’ kicks off the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner in San Antonio

Local media and social influencers joined together to raise awareness for the dinner that feeds over 25,000 people each holiday season.

SAN ANTONIO — Every year the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner feeds tens of thousands across San Antonio who wouldn’t normally have a holiday meal. The event is kicked off each year with the Gobble Games, with our own Jeremy Baker participating as always.

This year, the games took place at the Walmart on Thousand Oaks for the annual Gobble Games. It is a media against media competition that brings attention and awareness to the all-important Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving dinner that feeds so many across San Antonio.

Patricia Jimenez, the executive director for the Jimenez dinner told KENS 5, “We want to make sure that nobody who is left without goes without and isn’t left without a meal on Thanksgiving and that there is a place for them.”

This year, they’ve got something new for the kids!

“For the first time, we’re going to have a kids zone, an area for kids to come and enjoy a picture with Santa and also have a chance to do some wonderful kid activities, said Jimenez.

Speaking of activities, the games began with a candy corn ring toss. KENS 5 ‘s Jeremy Baker tried the underhanded method, and excelled!

There were other events like supermarket sweep, Thanksgiving-style turkey painting, blindfolded pie making, and the final event: turkey bowling.

Once the judges conferred and the scores were tallied, 1st place went to KENS 5!

The real winners are those getting a free Thanksgiving meal thanks to the Jimenez dinner. Not just at the convention center but at home too.

“We’re very grateful to the United Way. This partnership were able to deliver 4000 meals to seniors and the disabled who can’t leave their homes,” Jimenez said.
