Godric the Ginger cat is part snack enthusiast and certified goofball | Forgotten Friends

He has been waiting at the Animal Defense League for more than two years.

SAN ANTONIO — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week, we meet a three-year old Domestic short-haired Ginger cat who has been waiting at the Animal Defense League (ADL) for over two years. Since Godric has now been at ADL for over four months, he’s considered a “Diamond in the Ruff” and his adoption fee is waived.

“Godric was transferred to the Animal Defense League from San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS) as a kitten in need of medical care and a safe place to recover,” said Shelby Clark, Marketing Coordinator at ADL.

“He suffered a spinal injury as a kitten, and suffers from incontinence, which means he doesn’t have full control over his bathroom habits,” said Shelby. “But don’t let that scare you! He always tries to make it to the litter box, and has done great in foster homes with a consistent routine and a little help.” He takes medication daily that helps him with this issue.

Godric might need a bit of extra care, but he more than makes up for it in charm, personality, and snack-powered devotion. He is playful, confident, full of energy and a certified goofball.

“He loves ball toys with bells, exploring, and even splashing around in shallow water,” said Shelby. “He’s social but enjoys his independence, making him the perfect mix of fun and self-assured.”

He would prefer to be the only pet in your home so that the spotlight always shines on him, but he does get along well with other cats. “Godric does play rough though,” said ADL staff. “Think wrestling matches, sneak attacks, and lots of pouncing.”

He would do best with another confident, playful cat who can keep up with him and set boundaries when they are needed.

Shelter staff thinks he would thrive in a home with older kids or just adults that can appreciate his quirky personality and independent nature.

Godric also takes snacks very seriously… think of him as your personal feline vacuum cleaner. He is better than a Roomba! And he has never met a treat that he didn’t like.

“Godric enjoys treats and loves gentle pets and attention on his terms, he’s got main character energy through and through,” said Shelby.

He is fully vaccinated, already been neutered and microchipped.

“Godric is truly one of a kind and has been patiently waiting for a family who will see how special he is,” said ADL staff. “His condition has not slowed him down even a little bit.”

He is looking for a special home that gets his quirks, respects his sass, and never forgets treat time. If you’re ready for a big-hearted orange boy with a side of spice, Godric is your guy.
