SAN MARCOS, Texas — A dog named Stella has an interesting story to tell her friends after being rescued from the side of a cliff.
The San Marcos Fire Department got a call on Saturday about a dog trapped on a cliffside near the Dante and Malacoda trails in the Purgatory Creek Natural Area.
Rescue crews responded swiftly and located the dog.

Officials say that Stella, a 70-pound Golden Retriever, had gotten too close to the edge and slid about 15 feet onto a narrow ledge, leaving her in a dangerous spot about 40–50 feet above the ground.
Firefighters had to rappel down the cliff to retrieve the retriever.

We’re happy to report that Stella was reunited with her owner and did not suffer any injuries.
First responders want to remind you that if you take your 4-legged friends on a hike with you, make sure they are on a leash.
That will help protect your dog, as well as other trail users, and wildlife, too.
