The Wemby jersey sold for $73,200 at auction.
SAN ANTONIO — Following the Spurs’ road win over the Nets in December 2024, a young San Antonio Spurs fan was eager to swap jerseys with Victor Wembanyama, and the French big man obliged.
The moment went viral, showing the young fan holding a gigantic Wemby City Edition jersey while the Spurs center held up the tiny uniform.
A few weeks after that moment, the jersey was listed on Goldin Auction House, and after several weeks and bids, the jersey was sold for $73,200.

However, the jersey’s consignor is now suing the auction house to prevent the sale from proceeding.
According to cllct.com, Frankie Desideri Sr. filed the request for a temporary restraining order against Goldin with the New York Supreme Court on Monday.
According to the request, the family originally consented to auctioning the jersey, but later made multiple requests to have the item withdrawn, to no avail. Desideri told cllct his son had regrets and didn’t want to auction it off anymore.
Desideri further claimed the contract he signed with Goldin will be nullified because he did not know it is illegal for any payments made for a child’s property to be sold for more than $50,000 without a court-appointed guardian. Whether the property was Desideri’s or his son’s could he material to that claim.
In addition, Desideri claims Goldin used images of his son and himself in promotional materials without consent.
“We never contacted this individual and never knew who he was,” Ken Goldin told cllct. “On Dec. 29, he contacted us first by going to Goldin.com and clicking the button that said ‘SELL.’ By Jan. 2 at 9:02 a.m., he had signed the consignment contract.”
When the item was initially listed, Wemby reacted to that news with a crying emoji once he discovered what had happened to that jersey.
Spurs fans also reacted negatively to the jersey up for auction as many felt it was a gift from the Spurs center and not meant to be flipped for financial gain.
