SAN ANTONIO — Let’s play some golf! For a good cause as always of course!
The good folks at 1Hope For Kids are taking that plunge and hosting their first ever golf tourney to raise critical funds for their foster care mission! 1Hope has a sole mission of finding safe, loving, Christian homes in the greater San Antonio area for foster children who have suffered at the hands of abuse and neglect.
The tournament is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 29 at The Dominion Country Club and has open team spots available! We spoke with CEO John Wilhelm about their upcoming golf event!
“A wonderful golf professional named David Murrah became friends with 1Hope and said he would love to help us host a tournament,” said Wilhelm. “We said we have no idea what we are doing, but you do. […] It is open for all that want to be involved.”
Wilhelm reiterated that 1Hope is not really involved in the golf world, but that they’ve had lots of golfers approach them who said they are excited about being a part of it.
“We have a large number of sponsors,” Wilhelm said. “We have half of our teams, 18, one team per hole, but we would love to double that!”
The event will provide breakfast at 7:30 a.m. followed by an 8 a.m. start for the golf tournament.
“There will be several games on the course including a hole-in-one contest where there will be a new car given away if someone hits a hole-in-one,” said Wilhelm.
And the best news about the event is that 100% of the funds raised will go toward the 1Hope mission, and that means everything to Wilhelm.
“We want to provide as many homes as we can, and we do get government support once the children are in the home, but there is no support for finding the families,” he continued. “These funds allow us to go out and find those families and walk them through the process of becoming a loving Christian home for children in care.”
