Castle Hills Police say the victim got out of his car to help the victim of the crash when he was struck by a second intoxicated driver.
SAN ANTONIO — A man was struck and killed by a driver suspected of driving while intoxicated after he got out of his vehicle to help another driver involved in a crash with a wrong-way driver also suspected of driving under the influence.
Police responded to the westbound lanes of Loop 410 between Blanco Road and Vance Jackson Road around 1 a.m. for reports of a crash.
Police say a man was driving the wrong way when he hit another vehicle. A good Samaritan stopped and got out of his car to help the victim of that crash and was struck by another vehicle driven by a female driver.
Castle Hills Police say the wrong-way driver tested nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The good Samaritan who was hit was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
Police say the woman who hit the victim will also be booked later on Thursday for intoxication manslaughter, according to the Castle Hills Police.
The west bound lanes of Loop 410 were closed between Blanco Road and Vance Jackson Road for a few hours while investigators looked into this accident.
The identity of the victim was not released.
