Good Samaritan with garden hose saves 3 people who were sleeping during Florida house fire

Hernando County Fire Rescue crews say the bystander saw the flames and used a garden hose to battle the fire.

SPRING HILL, Fla. — Three people have a stranger to thank for saving their lives while they were sleeping, according to Hernando County Fire Rescue.

Just after 7 a.m. Friday, crews said they were called to a house fire on Harrow Road near Elk Lane in Spring Hill. When the first engine got there, crews said they found smoke coming from a front window.

During the investigation, firefighters said they learned a bystander walking by saw the flames “shooting out” a front window and grabbed a garden hose to fight the fire before fire rescue arrived. Crews credit the good Samaritan for saving the lives of three people who were still sleeping inside the burning home.

The home suffered “significant” damage to the front living room and smoke damage throughout the house has made the home un-livable, fire rescue said.

The American Red Cross is reportedly helping the three adults who were displaced because of the fire. No one was hurt and fire rescue crews say the cause of the fire was “electrical,” but didn’t go into further detail.

“A HUGE Thank You to the unknown bystander whose quick actions saved 3 lives!” fire rescue said in a news release.
