Goodwill to open donation distribution center in Kerrville, but volunteers are needed

More than 100 bodies have been recovered in the Kerr County area in the aftermath of the July Fourth floods that devastated Central Texas.

SAN ANTONIO — Officials with Goodwill San Antonio say residents have responded in a huge way to the Hill Country floods, having donating more than three tons of clothes and household goods for those impacted.

Now, Goodwill plans to open a temporary distribution center in Kerrville to ensure those in need are able to take advantage of the donations as they continue to recover.

The distribution site will be located at 827 Junction Highway, Suite 831, where it will be open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Monday. But Goodwill says volunteers are needed to help man the site; those interested can sign up through the American Red Cross at this link closer to next week.

The organization also announced that donations are on hold amid “overwhelming support” from the public as Goodwill San Antonio shifts “to ensuring those impacted can easily access available resources.”

If you live in San Antonio and still want to help out, you can round up your purchases total at any of the Alamo City’s 24 Goodwill stores through Aug. 10; the organization says it will donate those extra proceeds to Kerr County relief efforts.

“Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the disaster,” Goodwill San Antonio President Carlos Contreras said in a press release. “We know the journey to recovery won’t be easy, but we’re here for the long haul.”
