Governor Abbott to sign public education funding bill in Salado

The Governor’s Office says the bill will provide $8.5 billion in new funding for public education and a $4 billion teacher and staff pay raise.

SALADO, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott will travel to Central Texas to sign a new public education funding bill on June 4, the Governor’s Office has announced.

According to the Governor’s Office, Abbott will host a bill signing in Salado for legislation passed during the 89th legislative session, which he says will provide $8.5 billion in new funding for public education and $4 billion for teacher and staff pay raises.

The signing will be held at the Salado Middle School Library, located at 1169 Williams Rd. in Salado, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4.

Abbott will reportedly be joined by Chairman Brandon Creighton, Chairman Brad Buckley, Salado Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Michael Novotny, Temple Independent School District teacher JoMeka Gray, and other educators and legislative leaders.
