Grandmother of Beeville baby who died in hot car to turn herself into police

The woman was released from the hospital after suffering cardiac issues.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Ruth Rodriguez, the grandmother of the 9-month-old baby who died Wednesday after being left in a hot car in Beeville is expected to turn herself into authorities Tuesday morning around 10 a.m.

The 69-year-old woman will reportedly go before a magistrate where she will be handed down a $50,000 bond. She is expected to be released from jail shortly after.

Her granddaughter is said to have died from heat exhaustion.

Beeville Police Chief Kevin Behr said Monday that Rodriguez was taken to the hospital after suffering cardiac issues shortly after the infant’s recent death, but he did not say when.

Neither her identity nor the infant’s identities have been confirmed nor released by officials.

The older woman is expected to be arrested on charges of criminally negligent homicide this week.

Officers said when they arrived at the house to respond to the call, the baby was in her arms.

An online fundraiser also has been set up to help the baby’s family, and it had raised more than $7,000 of its $10,000 goal as of Monday afternoon.
