The 69-year-old woman went before Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Abel Suniga, and was given a $50,000 bond as members of her family looked on.
She has since bonded out.
Her granddaughter is said to have died from heat exhaustion.
Rodriguez was taken to the hospital after suffering cardiac issues shortly after the infant’s recent death, said Beeville Police Chief Kevin Behr.
Officers said when they arrived at the house to respond to the call, the baby was in her arms.
