Grass fire in southern Guadalupe County contained; evacuation request lifted

Officials say a large grass fire that threatened homes in southern Guadalupe County is now contained, and residents are allowed to return home.

GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas — A large grass fire that burned across a stretch of Hickory Forest in southern Guadalupe County has now been contained, according to officials.

The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office said the fire was spreading across the area Saturday and threatening nearby homes and structures as crews worked to stop the flames.

Residents near the fire were urged to evacuate if they believed they were in danger and to prioritize their safety as conditions changed.

Officials also warned residents not to attempt to fight the fire themselves and asked drivers to avoid the area so emergency vehicles could move freely.

Now, the Guadalupe County Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire has been contained and the evacuation request has been lifted, allowing residents to return home.

Authorities have not said what caused the fire.

The situation remains under investigation.
