Greenhouse fire threatens San Antonio home; no injuries reported

Fire crews quickly contained a greenhouse fire, preventing damage to the main home. The cause is under investigation.

SAN ANTONIO — Crews responded to a small fire at a home northwest of downtown San Antonio Monday after a greenhouse caught fire in a backyard.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. at a home in the 2700 block of Woodline Drive, not far from Culebra Road. According to officials on scene, the fire was contained to the structure located behind the home.

Crews said the flames did extend close to the house, but the home itself was not damaged.

“There was some exposure to the house, but the stucco wall stopped it,” officials said. “There was no fire damage to the house itself, just the greenhouse.”

Firefighters noted there were electrical cords and electronics inside the greenhouse, which may have played a role in the fire. However, investigators have not confirmed the exact cause.

“There appeared to be some electronics that were plugged in,” officials said. “We didn’t see exactly what they were powering, but it looked electrical in nature. Right now, the cause is undetermined.”

Officials added the greenhouse contained mostly potting supplies and general gardening materials. No exotic plants or hazardous materials were found.

No injuries were reported. Fire crews cleared the scene after ensuring the fire was fully extinguished.

The fire remains under investigation.
