Grupo Animo summer theater returns for San Antonio teens

Registration is now open and is completely free.

SAN ANTONIO — A youth theater program is returning to the Alamo City this summer in the hopes of inspiring the next generation of artists.

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center has partnered with SAY Sí! for the Grupo Animo youth theater program, which offers a four-week long workshop for high school students between the ages of 13 an 18 and no prior experience is needed.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with SAY Sí! once again to provide this invaluable opportunity for our youth,” said Jorge Piña, Guadalupe Theater Department Director and Grupo Animo Founder. “Grupo Animo is more than just a theater program; it’s a space where young people can explore their identities and share their stories through the transformative power of theater.”

Students who participate in the resident summer program will work with professional teaching artists from June 2 to June 27, ultimately leading to live performances on June 28 and June 29 where the students can showcase their skills and talents.

The workshop will take place Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at SAY Sí!, located at 1310 S. Brazos, San Antonio, TX 78207.

Organizers say the program fosters artistic skills and encourages personal growth and confidence within aspiring young artists. Grupo Animo was originally founded in 1992 and consisted of students from all backgrounds and areas of San Antonio.

Registration is now open and is completely free. Organizers encourage participants to sign up soon since spaces are limited.
