Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office renews push to solve cold case of San Antonio mother found dead

Sarah Gaitan disappeared in October 2015 to be found dead in a hay field in March 2016.

SAN ANTONIO — The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office is making a renewed push for answers in the cold case of Sarah Gaitan.

It’s been nearly 10 years since the mother of four disappeared in October 2015.

Her remains were found months later in March 2016 at a hay field in Guadalupe County at the intersection of South Santa Clara and Gerdes Road.

The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office can’t figure out how she died and in what manner, and they’re asking the public for help.

“We’ve done the cell phone, forensics. We were able to actually, get a search warrant for the suspect’s car, and there’s no indications, physical evidence in the vehicle that would lead to a cause and manner of death for Sarah,” said Lt. Zach McBride, Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office.

Lt. McBride with the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office worked as the lead investigator over Gaitan’s case.

The search took up 25 acres and Gaitan was identified by her dental records.

“I mean, it still hurts today as it did that day,” said Joann Zepeda, Gaitan’s aunt.

The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office says they’re making the renewed push this week thanks to Gaitan’s family as the case is months away from the 10 year mark and still unsolved.

“Somebody out there knows something,” said Zepeda.

Zepeda says they’re going to be giving out water bottles with info on Gaitan’s case on July 27 at Mendoza’s 4th Annual Back to School event at Royal Public Schools.
