SAN ANTONIO — A LEE High School student faces criminal charges after a gun was found in their backpack, according to district officials.
North East ISD sent a letter to parents about a recent report that a student was in possession of a gun.
The campus administrator and the North East Police Department were able to identify and locate the student, who was then brought into the office. The student’s backpack was searched as a precaution and a gun was found. The student now faces criminal charges, according to the letter.
The district said they encourage all parents to talk with their children about bringing prohibited items to school – especially weapons.
“We take all instances like this seriously and consequences will be given to anyone who brings these items to school. We also ask again that you please continue to discuss school safety with your children. If they see something that isn’t right, please report it to administrators or a teacher. We applaud that this was reported to us in a timely fashion,” Aubrey Chancellor, Executive Director of NEISD Communications said in the letter.
