Guns Down Gloves On | Boxing fundraiser held for families of unsolved murders

Jessica Ramos held the inaugural “Justice for George” for families who lost their loved ones to gun violence.

SOMERSET, Texas — Families still waiting to have their children’s murders solved gathered in Somerset today for the inaugural Justice for George event.

George Ramos who was shot and killed in 2019 is the inspiration for this event. His family and so many others still have no answers as to who killed their loved ones.

Ramos was an up and coming boxer when he was killed at 18 on the North West side of San Antonio, so his mother Jessica Ramos started this event to help kids pick up gloves like her son and not guns.

“If my son was alive we’d be doing this on the pro side,” Jessica said.

In the boxing ring kids young and old battled it just like her son George. Supporting them in the crowd was their community, loved ones, business owners and families who have lost someone to gun violence.

“Ethan was aspiring to be an artist,” one mom said.

“My daughter was taken from me too soon…she was only 20,” a dad said.

“My son was Aaron Rocha who was murdered in a road rage incident,” another mother said.

Funds from the event go back to the Somerset High School and the boxing league.

While the trophy that each winner takes from the ring sits as a reminder to choose gloves over guns.

“Georgie’s life was taken…and so was the life of other children,” Jessica said. “When I’m sure if they would’ve known they were going to take a life they would’ve gone in a ring.”
