H-E-B earns spot on Forbes list of America’s best large employers

The Texas-based grocery chain was recognized nationally for workplace culture, pay and employee trust.

SAN ANTONIO — Almost every Texan knows H-E-B has built a reputation as one of the best grocery stores in the country, and now the company is receiving national recognition for more than just its shelves.

H-E-B was recently named to Forbes’ annual list of America’s Best Large Employers, placing the San Antonio-based grocery chain among the top large companies nationwide.

The rankings are based on surveys of employees who evaluate their workplaces on factors like company culture, compensation and opportunities for career growth.

According to Forbes, the list highlights companies across many industries, with major names like NVIDIA, Amazon and Netflix ranking near the top. The publication noted that trusted brands in food and retail, including Chick-fil-A and REI, also made the list.

H-E-B ranked among the top 20 companies, with Forbes citing strong employee feedback and workplace trust. The report pointed to the company’s positive Glassdoor scores as one factor that helped elevate H-E-B into the “top echelon” of trusted employers.

Forbes also explained that its analysis used multiple data sources, including information from People Data Labs, which tracks employee retention, job movement and workforce longevity nationwide.

“Tenure is a big signal,” People Data Labs CEO Ben Eisenberg told Forbes. “At the end of the day, all of these companies are just their employees.”

H-E-B currently operates 455 stores across Texas and Mexico and employs about 175,000 people, continuing to grow as one of the state’s largest private employers.

For many Texans, the recognition simply confirms what shoppers, and employees, have long believed: H-E-B is more than a grocery store, it’s one of the most trusted workplaces in the country.
