H-E-B making waves in this part of Texas. Here’s why.

H-E-B’s expansion into North Texas was in a full-tilt advancement last year as the San Antonio-based grocery store opened new stores and broke ground on others. Now, a new annual report from commercial real estate group Weitzman puts the grocer’s move into the Dallas-Fort Worth area into perspective in terms of new retail construction.

Weitzman held its Annual Forecast Event in early January and released its annual market report. Bob Young, executive managing director for Weitzman, said that H-E-B and Target were the leaders among new retail construction in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. H-E-B’s new stores coming to McKinney and Allen accounted for 22% of retail construction.

He added that the Dallas area will continue to see active construction from grocers from H-E-B, Target, Joe V’s Smart Shop, Sprouts, Kroger and Tom Thumb.
