H-E-B recalls soup product due to ‘undeclared milk’ bringing allergy risk to Texas consumers

H-E-B recalls Red Lentil Dal Soup in Texas after undeclared milk is found, posing severe allergy risks to consumers in Texas.

SAN ANTONIO — A soup that has been distributed to Texas H-E-B stores is now being recalled for containing “undeclared milk,” the company states.

The recall comes after Bakkavor USA issued an alert for the “16-ounce Meal Simple brand Red Lentil Dal Soup, BEST BY 1/11/2026” as it reportedly contains undeclared milk.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product,” H-E-B says.

The soup product was distributed from Nov. 3 to Dec. 8 and made available to purchase at H-E-B stores located across Texas.

The retail giant said an investigation was initiated after a consumer notified H-E-B’s firm alleging the product was a poultry and rice soup, which led to the discovery of milk in the product when it was not listed as an ingredient.

“The Meal Simple Red Lentil Dal Soup does not include milk as an ingredient, nor does it declare milk on the label. The root cause investigation is ongoing,” H-E-B confirmed.

Consumers who have purchased the “16-ounce Meal Simple brand Red Lentil Dal Soup” are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Consumers with questions regarding the recall may contact H-E-B’s Customer Service Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1-855-432-4438.
