H-E-B’s massive growth marches on with $40M store opening soon

A North Texas suburb that has been dubbed one of the state’s “best small cities” will welcome its first-ever H-E-B this month. The multimillion-dollar grocery store is a part of the company’s expansion into the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

H-E-B’s inaugural location in Rockwall will celebrate its grand opening on Wednesday, October 29, according to a press release. Folks who have been waiting for its arrival can shop as early as 6 a.m. that day.

The market will span 131,000 square feet, making it larger than those in Plano and Frisco. Investors poured $40 million into the project, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing.

Customers will be able to enjoy a True Texas BBQ restaurant, curbside pickup, and delivery services alongside the market’s renowned product assortment. Similar to other H-E-Bs, it will also be home to a full-service pharmacy with a drive-thru.

It’s been a long time coming for Rockwall residents. The city is located roughly 25 miles east of Dallas and boasts a population of roughly 50,000 people. Many in the area have been waiting their turn as H-E-B has already opened stores in Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Allen, Alliance, and Mansfield. Company officials broke ground at the site of the future store in June 2024 and expected work to be completed in September 2025.

The selection of Rockwall for a new location could indicate the town is on the up and up. Last month, it was named the fifth-best small city in Texas by WalletHub, a personal finance company. It beat out the Austin-area suburb of Georgetown and the San Antonio-area suburb of New Braunfels.
