SAN ANTONIO — The Queen of Tejano is being celebrated along the River Walk at one of the Alamo City’s most popular restaurants.
Hard Rock Cafe San Antonio is opening their new Selena-themed speakeasy, “La Flor Escondida,” with a curated menu, exclusive playlist and vibes that are reminiscent of the trailblazer herself. The soft launch of the speakeasy will fall on April 16 – Selena’s birthday followed by a tribute performance at 8 p.m.
“Selena was actually really known for having a loving, warm, embracing energy and we’ve really tried to curate a very cozy intimate space for people to soak in the memorabilia,” Deisey Guerra, Hard Rock’s Sales and Marketing Manager said.
Guerra said everything began falling into place once the idea, “one of the best ideas that has ever been brought to this venue,” was pitched to the Hard Rock Cafe team.
“We’ve curated a custom menu for this experience, it will be an experience like no other. We’re just really trying to channel the local Tejano culture.”
The special menu features two appetizers inspired by Texas puffy tacos. One version comes with carnitas and fresh cilantro garlic aioli, while the other version includes steak, a spicy aioli and some queso fresco. And “because it was one of Selena’s favorites,” Hard Rock is offering a small pepperoni flatbread pizza with cream cheese, hot honey and jalapenos.
“It’s the best pepperoni pizza you’ll ever have,” Guerra said.
Featured cocktails include the La Reina Eterna, a cocktail accompanied with a perfume bottle and strawberry puree “lipstick.” There’s also the La Flor Picosa in a tall “vela” candle glass garnished with a flower.
The mood-lit setting is decorated with memorabilia along the walls, including exclusive photos, iconic magazines and even a piece of the floor she performed on top of during the grand opening of the restaurant in 1995.
“It actually was her second to last performance here in San Antonio,” Guerra said. “The paint that we actually choose is a cherry cola, was actually inspired by her burgundy pinstripe suit that she wore at the grand opening performance of Hard Rock Café San Antonio.”
Guests can also take pictures at the Selena star, located right outside the Hard Rock cafe door.
La Flor Escondida will be ongoing, with no end date in sight. Visitors will be able to pre-book the experience through the Hard Rock website.
