
Harlandale ISD Superintendent Gerardo Soto has been named Region 20’s Superintendent of the Year for 2025.👏
SAN ANTONIO — A local school leader has been honored in a big way!
Mr. Gerardo Soto, Harlandale ISD Superintendent, has been named the 2025 Superintendent of the Year for Education Service Center Region 20 by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), a recognition that honors exemplary leadership and a commitment to student success.
Superintendent Mr. Soto was joined by the Harlandale School Board Trustees, district and campus leadership, as well as his wife, daughters and family when he accepted the award.
Mr. Soto now represents Region 20 in the statewide selection process, with the winner to be announced during the 2025 Texas Association of School Administrators/TASB Convention this fall.
Soto has more than 30 years in education and has led the Harlandale district since 2019. His career began as a paraprofessional aide before becoming a teacher, principal and later, Executive Director of Operations at Harlandale ISD. Under his leadership as superintendent, the district has undergone historic transformation.
- Leading the passage of Bond 2022– the largest bond in District history– which funded major projects like the new CTE Center, Memorial Stadium renovation, high school auditorium upgrades and the soon-to-be Multipurpose Arena
- Repurposing campuses to better meet student and staff needs, including transforming the Carroll Bell campus into the new CTE Center, a strategic move that saved the District more than $15 million in construction costs
- Earning the state’s highest financial rating, A–Superior Achievement
- Launching the Educational Partners Program, addressing teacher shortages with qualified, degreed professionals
- Generating $3.8 million in Teacher Incentive Allotment funding to more than 200 designated teachers
