Have you hugged your cow today? Calvary Farms Outreach has you covered! | Texas Outdoors

If you love animals, you really haven’t experienced love… until you’ve cuddled with a cow!

ADKINS, Texas — I grew up in the country. We raised cows and pigs and chickens, for food. We had horses. My parents at one time raised emus, for meat. Being around livestock just seems natural to me.

But in my almost seven decades I had never “cuddled with a cow”… until now.

Calvary Farms Outreach allows you to do just that. They have six cows, that if you love on them long enough will literally lay their head in your lap and fall asleep.

It’s not just cows either.

“96 animals, to date on property,” says owner Molli Eittreim.

But make no mistake… Calvary Farms Outreach is no petting zoo.

“I’ve always wanted an animal therapy farm,” Eittreim said. “I think animals are incredibly therapeutic. They come to you with no judgement, they just love you unconditionally, I think they’re incredibly healing.”

It’s easy to see and feel on the 15-acre sanctuary.

Almost every animal on the farm is a rescue or owner forfeiture. Eittreim says they did buy a few animals to start… but once word began to spread her herd began to grow.

What started with her daughter’s Ag project, pig “Ziggy” has grown.

“We’ve got donkeys, we’ve got pigs, we’ve got cows, we’ve got the emus. We’ve got turkeys,” Eittreim said.

Along with a husband, and between them 8 kids.

Alpacas and goats are as friendly as lap dogs, they may actually think they are. Same with the donkeys or even “Tom” the turkey.

They also have a “sensory aware” area and host vets with PTSD, Church groups, school groups… or anyone who just wants to get away from the hustle and hassles of the day.

It’s a 501 C3 where, if you want, you can unplug and get away… or if you feel like it, take your laptop and turn the quietness of the farm, into your office for the day.
