Hays County correction officer arrested on charges of sexual assault with child

George Snell is charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and two counts of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact.

GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas — A detention officer at the Hays County Jail was arrested on Tuesday for charges of sexual assault with a child, according to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office.

George Snell is charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and two counts of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact.

Officials say the arrest is a result of an ongoing investigation that began in 2024.

“Our Office coordinated and communicated with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office throughout the investigation,” said Sheriff Sheriff Joshua Ray, Guadalupe County. “I applaud Sheriff Hipolito for his quick and decisive decision to terminate Snell in concert with his arrest. We have made it clear that there will be no tolerance for child predators. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you work, or even if you wear a badge. We are entrusted by our communities with a degree of authority that demands we hold ourselves to a higher standard. Sheriff Hipolito and I are lock and step in this expectation. No one is above the law, and no one is entitled to hurt a child.”

No further details regarding the investigation are available.
