HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Two men are dead after a shooting in the Spring area Friday night, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The alleged shooter said it was self-defense.
Deputies responded around 8:45 p.m. to reports of a possible roadway shooting on Greengate Drive near Spring Stuebner Road. When they arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds. One man was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Sgt. Jason Brown with the sheriff’s office said both men were in their late fifties,
According to Sgt. Brown, the shooting was initially handled by Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables, who arrived to find the two wounded men and the shooter still on scene.
“The shooter in the incident stayed on scene and surrendered himself to arriving deputies,” Brown said.
Brown said the man who fired the shots said it was done in self-defense.
“He’s claiming that the individuals that he shot had been following him for some time,” Brown said. “And when they pulled into the neighborhood, those individuals blocked him in and attempted to come up and confront him in his car.”
Homicide detectives were interviewing the man and working to verify his account, including where all parties were before the shooting. As of Friday night, no charges had been filed.
“It’s possible the charges could be filed sometime in the future, but as of right now, we’re not anticipating for him to be filed on tonight,” Brown said.
If he is not charged immediately, investigators will continue the case and eventually refer it to the district attorney’s office and a grand jury.
Brown said one of the men who was shot has been identified at the hospital, while investigators are still working to identify the man who died at the scene so they can notify his family.
When asked whether the two men were armed, Brown said, “Not that we know of. We’re still in the process of going through the scene… but as of right now, we don’t believe that they were armed.”
This remains an ongoing investigation.
