Friends, fans and members of the film community came together at the Brick at Blue Star on Monday for a celebration of the late actor’s life and legacy.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio film community gathered Monday evening to honor the life and legacy of actor Jonathan Joss.
Joss was shot and killed over a week ago on the city’s south side after what police say was a long-running feud with his neighbor.
His accused killer, 59-year-old Siegfredo Alvarez, was released on a $200,000 bond on Wednesday. He faces a murder charge in the actor’s death.
Joss was a well-known actor famous for his roles on “King of the Hill” and “Parks and Recreation” as well as recent roles on “Tulsa Kings” and the “Magnificent Seven.”
Friends, fans and members of the film community came together at the Brick at Blue Star on Monday for a celebration of his life and legacy. The event featured a screening of his most notable work along with projects he worked on with local filmmakers.
“We’re just stunned and heartbroken,” said Philip Nelson, city producer for the San Antonio 48 Hour Film Project.
Nelson says while Joss is most known for his acting roles, many people don’t know about his dedication for mentoring and supporting up and coming creatives in the community.
“Jonathan, being a local San Antonio guy, would support local small independent filmmakers in San Antonio,” he said. “He wanted to give people opportunities.”
Nelson says Joss will be remembered as a man who always gave his attention to people pursuing their dreams.
“I wish I could give him a big hug,” he said.
