Hearing-impaired bicyclist robbed at knifepoint near downtown, police say

Police say a hearing-impaired bicyclist was robbed at knifepoint on West Commerce Street Saturday afternoon.

SAN ANTONIO — Police are searching for a suspect after a hearing-impaired man was robbed at knifepoint Saturday afternoon just west of downtown.

Officers were called to the 900 block of West Commerce Street around 3:45 p.m. for a reported robbery in progress.

According to police, the 46-year-old man told officers he was riding his bicycle when an unknown male approached him, displayed a sharp instrument and demanded his property.

Police said the victim, who is hearing impaired, could not understand what the suspect was saying. The suspect then began stabbing the victim’s belongings before taking them and fleeing the area.

No injuries were reported at the scene, and no arrests have been made.

The incident remains under investigation.
