An officer was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries, according to SAFD.
SAN ANTONIO — A road repair project off Babcock Road took an unexpected turn Thursday morning, when one man ended up in handcuffs and a San Antonio police officer was taken to the hospital.
SAPD officers responded to reports of an incident in the 6500 block of Spring Branch Street.
San Antonio police say the trouble started when a tow truck tried to relocate a car off the street so that workers could have full access to the pavement.
They say the owner of the car started a disturbance with the tow truck operator and when the police officer who had been called to settle things down arrived- he saw the angry car owner punch the driver.
They say the officer tried to de-escalate things and he also took some punches to the face.
That’s when the officer and the driver worked together to subdue the man.
They say no Tasers. No excessive force. Just a wrestling match that ended with the man facing charges and the officer, whose face was swollen, at the hospital to be checked out.
The car ended up around the corner.
The Public Works crew is now back at work.
This is a developing story.
