KERRVILLE, Texas — Our “Forgotten Friends” series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.
This week’s Forgotten Friend is a Heeler mix named Atlas, who was found wandering around in Kerrville after the flooding on July Fourth. He was brought to Kerr County Animal Services. Kerrville Pets Alive! tells us that animals face possible euthanasia if they are not adopted, because they just don’t have the room to keep them all.
Atlas is super friendly, and loves attention. He likes playing with toys and adores playing in water at the pool. He has mastered playing fetch and enjoys getting taken on long walks.
He is house-trained and is submissive if challenged.
“Atlas needs people and loves attention,” said Karen Guerriero. “He is a happy go lucky dog all of the way around and is loved by all of the shelter volunteers and staff.”
The perfect home for him would be one with older kids.
He loves getting scratched on his back and any kind of love pets. And he’s never met a treat that he didn’t like.
He is healthy, current on his vaccinations and has already been neutered.

If you would like to add Atlas to your family, contact Kerrville Pets Alive! at info@kerrvillepetsalive.org. And again, his adoption fee will be taken care of by KPA because his time is running out! In fact, KPA! is sponsoring the fees for a lot of their animals right now as they work to find all of the animals loving homes. KPA! will also give you the food and any other supplies you need to care for Atlas when he first gets to his new home.
Kerrville Pets Alive is an all-volunteer animal welfare charity serving Kerr County. You can check out their adoptable pets on Petfinder or visit their adoption events every first and third Saturday between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., at 2102 Memorial Blvd. in Kerrville.

For whoever adopts Atlas, Lucy’s Doggy Daycare & Spa will be lending a paw by offering them a free “Glow Up” Day at the Spa, which includes a massage therapy bath and Pawdicure. One of Lucy’s most cherished core values is to continue Lucy’s legacy of giving back to pups in need, as Lucy herself was a rescue!
KPA is open seven days a week by appointment – email info@kerrvillepetsalive.org or call (713) 855.6291. You can also fill out an adoption application on their website.

Fur Ball benefitting Kerrville Pets Alive!
KPA! is hosting their annual fundraiser, the Fur Ball on December 6 and are in need of silent and live auction items. This year’s theme is “The Great Catsby.” This fundraiser funds their operations throughout the year. Visit kerrvillepetsalive.com/furball.
You can also visit their Amazon wish list on their website and order pet food and supplies that they need to help the animals. Right now they really need gift cards to H-E-B, Walmart, Tractor Supply, Chewy and Amazon, so they can get the supplies they need to care for the animals. As always, monetary donations through their website are also appreciated.
Kerrville Pets Alive is also always in need of volunteers. CLICK HERE to find out how you can make a difference.
Remember when you adopt a shelter pet, you save two lives… the one you bring home with you and the one that now will be saved because the shelter has more room.
