A friend of 24-year-old Wisdom Hall said she couldn’t imagine why a man shot and killed her and her father late Friday night.
GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — A friend is remembering one of the victims in a double shooting on Bolivar Peninsula.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said a man and his daughter were shot and killed at a home in Gilchrist late Friday night.
The suspect led Chambers County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase back to Beaumont, where investigators say he stopped and shot himself in his car. Meanwhile, a friend of the victim is mourning.
“She was very protective,” Kyela Doucette said.
Doucette met Wisdom Hall five years ago, and she became like family. She said Hall had aspirations of working with children and helping others.
“Her smile, her heart, she would give you anything, if she had it, you need it, it was yours,” Doucette said.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said on Friday, around 11:30 p.m., they responded to a shooting at a home on Kirkpatrick Road in Gilchrist. Deputies said 45-year-old Eric Dopp and his 24-year-old daughter, Hall, were found dead outside the home.
An eyewitness told deputies they saw a verbal altercation between two men and a woman before the male suspect shot the two. A witness said the suspect left the scene in a white vehicle.
Doucette has one belief.
“In some way or another, she was defending her dad, or her dad was defending her,” Doucette said. “My heart is telling me that something along those lines happened. I can’t imagine what she could’ve done to have someone point a gun and fire it at her.”
The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Johnathan Findley, was chased down I-10 from Chambers County to Beaumont.
That’s where police said Findley barricaded himself inside his truck and shot himself. Doucette said she will miss Hall.
“I can’t think of anything worse in the world to be going through. But it’s going to be okay because I know she has a purpose,” Doucette said.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said the three were visiting a mutual friend of the suspect at the home in Gilchrist, although it’s not clear what led to the fatal argument.
