HOUSTON — This year we’re having a Texas-sized ALCS!
The Houston Astros claimed its spot in the series after defeating the Minnesota Twins in the ALDS, and the Texas Rangers swept their way into the ALCS after dominating the Baltimore Orioles.
Though Game 1 isn’t until Sunday, you better believe that friendly wagers are already being made up and down I-45.
On Thursday, Arlington Mayor Jim Ross called out Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and asked him if he was willing to make the series interesting by making a bet.
“Losing team wears the other’s jersey to a city council meeting. Pics or it didn’t happen. What do you say?” Ross posted to X, formally known as Twitter.
Turner accepted the bet with ease because he said he has had the pleasure of seeing the Astros win the World Series twice.
Over at the county judges’ offices, there are donations on the line.
If the Houston Astros win, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins has agreed to make a donation to the Astros Foundation and wear Astros gear the day after the last game of the series. If the Texas Rangers win. Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo will make a donation to the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and wear Rangers gear the day after the series.
“It’s great that Dallas County thinks the Rangers have a chance against last year’s World Series champions,” said Hidalgo. “I wish the Rangers the best, but we all know who’s bringing the American League pennant home this year.
“After watching the Rangers sweep both the Rays and Orioles, I’m looking forward to this Lone Star State battle and to Judge Hidalgo’s donation to the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation for youth baseball and softball in West Dallas after the Rangers win the series,” said Judge Clay Lewis Jenkins.
