
No serious firework related injuries were reported this New Year’s, however there were several instances where fireworks debris caught fire after popping fireworks.
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — The Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office were more than busy this New Year’s.
From December 28, 2024 to January 1, 2025, there were 32 firework-related fires in unincorporated Bexar County. This totaled an estimated loss of $100,000 worth of property damage.
No serious firework-related injuries were reported, however there were several instances where fireworks debris caught fire after popping fireworks. BCFMO says that citizens were vigilant and were quickly aided by firefighters.
During this three-day period, Bexar County Fire Dispatch answered 1,961 emergency or 911 calls and 2,548 calls from the non-emergency line. Of those calls, 108 resulted in fireworks-related incidents.
Of the reported fires:
- 32 total fires were related to fireworks
- 12 were grass/brush related fires.
- 3 structure fires.
- 2 vehicle fires.
- 5 trash bin fires.
- 10 non-habitable residential structures (shed, fence, etc.)
The most significant incident involved a vehicle that crashed into a fireworks stand at Highway 181 and Laguna Road. The business was shut down due to extensive damage. No serious bodily injuries were reported.
In addition, a total of five illegal fireworks sales sites were shut down and almost 750 pounds of firework products were seized in Bexar County neighborhoods. These businesses were subsequently shut down and violations were issued.
