Here’s how the Houston Texans can clinch a spot in the playoffs this weekend

The Texans control their destiny and can clinch a playoff spot as soon as this Sunday.

HOUSTON — Last year was nice … the Houston Texans won their first playoff game since 2019 … but the 2024 Houston Texans hope their playoff dreams don’t fall short again this season and they can make it to the Super Bowl.

The road begins with clinching a spot in the playoffs, which could happen as soon as Sunday.

Houston is in the driver’s seat as the regular season winds to a close — if the Texans win Sunday over the Dolphins and the Colts lose Sunday to the Broncos, Houston will clinch the AFC South division championship and secure a spot in the playoffs.

There are plenty of scenarios that lead to the Texans making the playoffs, but with NFL teams, the sooner the better.

The Texans’ playoff hopes will remain intact even with a Houston loss and an Indianapolis win this weekend.

Houston controls its destiny. The team must win two of its final four games of the regular season to win the division and earn a seat at the NFL playoff table.

Some things are easier said than done, though. Houston’s final stretch of the regular season is no cakewalk.

They will end up playing three games in 10 days between Dec. 15 and Dec. 25.

  • Dec. 15 vs. Miami Dolphins
  • Dec. 21 at Kansas City Chiefs
  • Dec. 25 vs. Baltimore Ravens

That stretch is brutal but the team gets an extended break between the Week 17 matchup against the Ravens and the final game of the regular season — a trip to Nashville to take on the Tennessee Titans on Jan. 5.
