Most San Antonio school districts and those in surrounding areas will be closed on Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Although some schools that were scheduled to be open for Martin Luther King Jr. Day have announced cancellations or delays for Monday, January 15.
On Monday afternoon, San Antonio-area school districts began releasing details on school delays and closures for Tuesday, January 16. Here’s what we know so far:

Texas universities
- At around 11 a.m., UTSA shared on X the university is “anticipating normal operations on Tuesday, January 16.”
- Texas State University in San Marcos and Round Rock have canceled classes on Tuesday.
- Texas A&M University in College Station has canceled classes for Tuesday and non-essential campus operations are suspended.
- Texas A&M University in Kingsville announced that normal operations are suspended and staff will work remote on Tuesday.
- The University of Texas at Tyler will be closed Tuesday.
- South Texas College will have a delayed start on Tuesday, with all campuses to open at 10 a.m. Regional Center for Public Safety Excellence will open at 8 a.m.
- Baylor University announced that the spring semester will start as planned on Tuesday.
- Stephen F. Austin University will be closed on Tuesday.
- Texas Christian University will be closed on Tuesday.

According to the latest report by the National Weather Service, Bexar county is under several advisories and warnings including a Hard Freeze Warning in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday, January 14 to 10 a.m. Wednesday January 17 as well as a Wind Chill Advisory that is in effect for the same time as the Hard Freeze Warning. Wind chill values are expected to be between zero and 10 degrees, forecasters with NWS said. Some areas may even see “feels-like” temperatures below zero.
In addition, Bexar County is also under a Winter Weather Advisory from now until noon on Monday, January 15. Forecasters are predicting ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch.
On Sunday night, January 14, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), issued a conservation appeal for Texas to save electricity for four hours starting on Monday January 15 at 6 a.m. through 10 a.m. The appeal comes as Texas is expected to see freezing temperatures which is expected to lead to record-breaking demand. ERCOT is requesting a conservation of energy for businesses and residents if it is safe to do so.
