SAN ANTONIO — Dozens of athletes who were born, grew up or train in Texas are competing at the Paris Olympics this summer—and three of them with ties to San Antonio have a chance to make the Alamo City proud.
San Antonio-born sprinter Fred Kerley is preparing for his shot at Olympic gold.. or rather, two shots. Kerley will be competing in the men’s 100-meter run and as a member of the 4×100-meter relay team, which means we could see plenty of the former Aggies star on the track in Paris.
Here’s when Kerley, a silver medalist from the 2020 Tokyo Games, is scheduled to compete:
- August 3, 3:35 a.m. CT – Men’s 100-meter, preliminaries

Keith Sanderson, an alumnus of Marshall High School, U.S. Army staff sergeant and four-time Olympian, will be hunting for his first career Olympic Games medal when he competes in the men’s rapid fire pistol.

Then there’s synchronized swimmer Natalia Vega Figueroa, a Puerto Rican who attended and competed at the University of the Incarnate Word from 2016-2021. The 25-year-old, first-time Olympian is also representing Team USA, joining the country’s other elite artistic swimmers.
