Here’s where warming centers will open in Bexar County during winter storm

SAN ANTONIO — Bexar County is preparing for dangerous winter weather this weekend as below-freezing temperatures and precipitation move into the area. Officials are preparing for dangerous weather and urging residents to “Bexar the Cold” together.

Five county warming centers will open Saturday, Jan. 24, at 6 a.m. and remain open until Monday, Jan. 26, at noon, offering short-term emergency shelter during the winter storm. 

Residents who need shelter are encouraged to bring essential items like their medications, clothing and personal supplies. All locations are accessible and service animals are welcome.

San Antonio’s Community Connections Hotline (210-207-1799) will operate 24/7 beginning 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, to connect unhoused residents with shelter, transportation and cold-weather supplies. Residents are encouraged to call if they need help or see someone in need.

Partner organizations, including Haven for Hope, the Salvation Army, Communities Under the Bridge, Corazon San Antonio and New Direction Church, will also provide temporary overnight shelter. Pets are welcome at all shelter locations.

All county offices and services will continue operating as usual at this time. Any changes will be posted at www.bexar.org. 

Public Works crews are monitoring conditions and are on standby should roads freeze. 

Parks staff will also monitor the entrances and exits for ice and close them if needed. Restrooms will be closed, water will be turned off during the freeze, and park reservations have been rescheduled.

All county buildings, including juvenile and adult detention facilities, have taken preventive measures such as boiler and generator checks, insulating water systems and de-icing walkways.
