“Thanks to these ‘D’ shift patrol deputies, everyone is getting dinner at Wendy’s,” ACSO said in a Facebook post. “And we made some new friends from Austin.”
ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — A few deputies were heroes for the day Friday night when they helped out a school bus of special needs kids.
According to a Facebook post, Atascosa County Sergeant John Mendoza got a report that an Austin-area school bus of special needs kids broke down on IH-37. Knowing temperatures were in the 30s, Sgt. Mendoza knew he had to help.
Seeing how many kids and adults were onboard and knowing that particular side of the highway wasn’t a safe place to wait, Sgt. Mendoza called several patrol deputies to load the kids up and get them to a warm place to wait for another bus.
Helping Sgt. Mendoza were deputies William Olsen, Jessica Turrubiartes, Alexis Hernandez and Deputy Chief Eric Kaiser.
“Thanks to these ‘D’ shift patrol deputies, everyone is getting dinner at Wendy’s,” the post said. “And we made some new friends from Austin.”
