‘He’s never far from our minds’ | A decade later, family renews plea for answers in Christmas Eve killing in Schertz

“Someone came in and violated his home and brutally murdered him in his easy chair,” Miguel Gutierrez said.

SCHERTZ, Texas — A decade after local businessman, Henry Gutierrez Jr. was shot and killed inside his Schertz home, his family is still waiting for answers and hoping someone with information will finally come forward.

Gutierrez, 71, was found murdered on Dec. 24, 2015, after being shot multiple times inside his home.

His son, Miguel Gutierrez, was the one who discovered him.

“Someone came in and violated his home and brutally murdered him in his easy chair,” Miguel Gutierrez said.

The 10 year mark of the killing has reopened wounds for the family, who say the holiday season has been especially painful ever since.

“We just hope that someone’s heart would maybe open up and realize, you know, it’s been 10 years that we’ve been in pain,” Miguel Gutierrez said.

Investigators have told the family that a new person of interest emerged about a year ago, but authorities say they are still missing a critical piece of information needed to solve the case.

The Gutierrez family believes the person responsible knew Henry Gutierrez and that others in the community may have information that could help investigators.

Miguel Gutierrez described his father as a devoted parent and grandfather, a successful businessman and someone who loved racing.

“He’s never far from our minds, never,” he said.

The family is urging anyone with information – no matter how insignificant it may seem to contact authorities.

“We can’t give up the hope that someone will come forward and there will be a break in the case,” Miguel Gutierrez said.

Schertz police and the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate.

Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $75,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Schertz Police Department or Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers, and remember you can remain anonymous.
