KIRBYVILLE, Texas — A Louisiana man was arrested early Tuesday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase that reached speeds exceeding 100 mph and ended with a crash into a tractor-trailer in Jasper County.

Julius T. Nix, 39, of Louisiana, was taken into custody after fleeing on foot following the collision at FM 363 in Kirbyville at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 5, according to a Facebook post from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers and deputies from multiple law enforcement agencies, including Jasper County, Silsbee Police and Kirbyville Police Department, intercepted the vehicle in Buna, the sheriff’s office reported.

Nix failed to negotiate a turn at FM 363 in Kirbyville and slammed into the side of a tractor-trailer, according to the post. After the crash, he fled on foot into a wooded area, discarding a large amount of ecstasy pills and a large amount of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies and officers set a perimeter around the area and awaited the arrival of Jasper Police Department K-9 units, according to the Facebook post. Nix was found hiding in the wooded area south of Bon Ami on County Road 451, the sheriff’s office reported.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was evaluated by Allegiance Emergency Medical Services, according to the post.

Lumberton Police officers took custody of Nix and drove him back to Hardin County, the sheriff’s office said.
