High-speed lane splitting leads to deadly crash Wednesday afternoon, according to police

Police say the 21-year-old driver lost control of his motorcycle and veered into the grassy median, coming into contact with the center metal cables.

A motorcyclist is dead after a major accident Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The crash took place on US 90 at Hunt Lane just after 2 p.m. Police say a 21-year-old man was driving eastbound on a 2025 Kawasaki EX500 motorcycle. Witnesses say the motorcyclist was driving at a high rate of speed, splitting lanes between vehicles.

Police say the driver lost control of his motorcycle and veered into the grassy median, coming into contact with the center metal cables. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle and became tangled in the cables, according to police.

He sustained serious bodily injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been positively identified.

No criminal charges are pending at this time.
