Hill Country College Preparatory High School to remain closed for remainder of week following shooting

“Yesterday was one of the hardest days our district has faced,” Superintendent Dr. John E. Campbell said.

BULVERDE, Texas — Hill Country College Preparatory High School will remain closed for the remainder of the week after the shooting at the school Monday morning, Comal ISD said in a new statement.

Authorities say a 15-year-old male student shot a female teacher on campus that morning. The unidentified teacher was taken to a San Antonio hospital, but her condition remains unknown as of Tuesday evening.

Deputies say the student turned the gun on himself after shooting his teacher and died at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Superintendent response

The superintendent of Comal ISD also had a message as the district posted a video on social media.

“Yesterday was one of the hardest days our district has faced,” Dr. John E. Campbell said. “[…] Our thoughts and prayers and concerns remain with our teacher in the hospital and her family as she recovers. This community rallies around you and we will be here to support you.”

Dr. Campbell also said how the community can show their support for the teacher.

“We invite you to wear blue and to wear a blue ribbon,” Dr. Campbell said. ” It’s simply [a] visible reminder that she is surrounded by people who care.”

“To our students, what you are feeling right now is real. And you do not have to carry these feelings alone. Your counselors and teachers are there to support you and we have added additional services for you.”

Dr. Campbell also addressed the concerns families may have with safety in the district amid the tragedy.

“We hear you and we will continue to communicate with you openly and we will move forward,” Dr. Campbell said.
